IPT's Sales Tax School I: Introduction to Sales and Use Taxes is the premier education course in sales & use taxation. This school provides a thorough review and analysis of the foundation of sales & use tax theory and the practical aspects of sales tax management. The school's content is designed to help attendees apply these principles in a real-world environment.

During the school, attendees experience a practical and applicable study of essential sales & use tax concepts such as research, accounting, auditing, and other technical skills. The program also includes sessions on the sales & use tax application to specific industries as well as an overview of value added tax (VAT).

This program is intended for those new to sales & use tax or with limited exposure to the discipline. The experience of attending this program will contribute to the attendee's technical knowledge of sales & use taxation and potential career advancement.  

The school is led by a diverse faculty of sales & use tax professionals with vast amounts of experience from the corporate, consulting, and legal sectors. These instructors will lend their professional expertise and insight to assist attendees in learning the concepts of sales & use taxation.

In addition to general sessions, attendees will spend time working together in smaller groups developing practical applications for situations sales & use tax professionals face every day. This hands-on format allows registrants to share ideas, expand their problem-solving skills, and network with colleagues.

Approximately 33.5 hours of continuing education credits are available for full attendance. There are no prerequisites for this course. Successfully completing Sales Tax School I, or the Sales Tax School I Competency Exam, is a requirement to attend Sales Tax School II, which is one of the mandatory requirements for the CMI - Sales Tax designation.
