Meet IPT's President

IPT is proud to welcome Janette M. Lohman CMI, CCIP, Esq., CPA, as IPT’s new president for the 2019 – 2020 term.  President Lohman is a Partner with Thompson Coburn LLP in St. Louis, Missouri where she practices exclusively in the area of state and local taxation, and she is an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Saint Louis University School of Law where she has taught a "SALT" seminar since 1998.  In March 2006, Janette received the Saint Louis University Faculty Excellence Award.

President Lohman was Director of the Missouri Department of Revenue from 1993 to 1997 and before that, Director of Tax Planning and Assistant General Counsel for the former McDonnell Douglas Corporation. She is a Fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel and holds an LL.M. in Taxation from the Washington University School of Law, a J.D. from the Saint Louis University School of Law, an M.B.A. from the Saint Louis University School of Business and Administration, a B.A., summa cum laude, from William Jewell College. President Lohman is a licensed CPA, and a member of the MSCPA (Taxation Committee) and the AICPA.  In August 2007, she received the 2007 AICPA/MSCPA "Woman to Watch" award for Missouri.

An IPT member since 2000, President Lohman holds both the CMI and CCIP designations and has served in many capacities for the Institute including Chair of the IPT Income Tax Education Program and former Co-Chair of the ABA/IPT Advanced Income Tax Seminar.  She also sat on the CCIP Professional Designation Committee, the State Income Tax Symposium and Value Added Tax Symposium Committees, and the Sponsored Research and University Relations Committees.  She has presented a numerous IPT programs and received the IPT's Distinguished Service Award in June 2008.

President Lohman serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Multistate Taxation and Incentives and was recently appointed to the Advisory Board for State Tax Notes.  She also serves on the SALT Executive Committee (ABA Taxation Section) and is a member of the Advisory Board for the National Multistate Tax Symposium (co-sponsored by Deloitte and the Florida Bar) and the Hartman SALT Forum Advisory Board (affiliated with Vanderbilt University Law School in Nashville, Tennessee). She is listed currently in The Best Lawyers in America and was named Best Lawyer's "2013 St. Louis Lawyer of the Year for Litigation & Controversy— Tax.”  She is a frequent speaker at national and regional SALT conferences and has authored many articles about state and local tax subjects.  Ms. Lohman is also a member of the Missouri Bar Association (formerly serving as a Vice Chairman of the Taxation Committee), the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis and the Mound City Bar Association.

President Lohman is active in fundraising for the arts and was awarded the Missouri Arts Leadership Award by the Missouri Arts Council in February 2009 and is also a member of the Krewe of Muses, in New Orleans, Louisiana.
