Tax Analyst - Reporting to the Tax Supervisor, the Tax Analyst serves as the state income tax lead and is responsible for an increasingly advanced level of preparation, review, and completion of required tax compliance, general tax accounting, tax research, and special projects.  The position requires an individual with strong technical skills, specifically with Microsoft Suite, tax software, and accounting programs.  This individual is expected to continually grow and gain new technical expertise through professional reading, attending continuing education programs and day-to-day interaction with the appropriate peers.  This position requires the Analyst to make decisions regarding company funds.  The Analyst must not only have the utmost level of integrity and trustworthiness, but must also accept the responsibility for and the initiative to be a sound, accountable steward of the company’s money.  The individual must also have the ability to work well in stressful situations under the pressure of deadlines and continuously changing financial conditions. Potential Job Duties (not inclusive): Prepare and review state and local income and franchise tax returns and various other tax related filings as necessary.  Prepare complex schedules for apportionment and adjusting workpapers by analyzing tax law, scrutinizing data received, and streamlining processes. Responsible for the loading of accurate information into the software system used for tax return preparation. Maintain complete, supported, and accurate records and workpapers for all projects completed to support the tax filings and tax positions, as well as support the Tax Department’s database initiative for efficient record retention. Prepare and review workpapers and schedules for quarterly and annual tax provision calculations, account roll forwards, and general tax compliance with changing accounting standards and tax legislation.  Research and prepare memoranda and other documentation regarding tax issues, changing tax regulations, and accounting standards. Prepare responses to Information Document Requests from the various state and local taxing authorities.  Communicate with State and Local tax authorities during routine audits to answer questions and to satisfy inquiries as needed.  Prepare and review applications for state and federal grants and economic incentive programs.  Work with state and local authorities to research incentive programs and assist with other Sonoco departments on incentive projects for new locations and acquisitions. Support Sonoco teams outside of the tax area as needed to provide support and tax knowledge. Provide support and assistance to other areas of the tax department with tax compliance as needed. Assign and oversee the state and local tax return preparation by working with other tax analysts, interns, and third party contractors as needed. Required Qualifications: Requires a Masters or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.  Exceptions allowed only in very special circumstances where an individual has proven themselves and has a large amount of direct tax experience. 3-6+ years of tax experience, accounting experience and CPA preferred. Software Technical Consultant (San Diego, California) - The Software/Technical Consultant is tasked with providing client facing expertise around the installation, maintenance, utilization, and optimization for the entire suite of TCI products. Supervisor, International Tax Reporting (Memphis, Tennessee) - Hilton Corporate.
