Director, Global Indirect Tax (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) - American Eagle Outfitters. Responsible for directing AEO’s global indirect tax strategy including the planning, compliance, accounting, reporting, and audit examinations for all AEO entities including United States & Puerto Rico sales & use tax, Canada GST/HST/PST, Mexico, China, and Europe (2014) VAT and other foreign locations as necessary.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop and direct the strategic vision for the Indirect Tax Department. Manage in-country tax consultants and advisors and the preparation of global indirect tax filings and remittances as well as informational returns including the preparation of necessary documentation and work papers. Ensure the integrity of all indirect tax data (e.g., POS tax rates, tax classifications, etc.). Provide indirect tax subject matter expertise to various internal and external business partners including Business Development, Marketing, Legal, eCommerce, Customer Service, Supply Chain Management, and vendors. Proactively review new business initiatives, global expansion plans and determine the effect on existing transaction tax calculation processes and procedures. Direct and oversee global tax audits, tax legislation and research, and miscellaneous tax issues as necessary. Coordinate with and assist International Income Tax Department with any foreign country tax planning as necessary. Direct the abandoned & unclaimed property compliance and audit examinations. Direct and oversee the business personal property tax compliance and audit examinations. Coordinate with the Accounts Payable and International Income Tax Departments as to the proper remittance and reporting of vendor withholding taxes. Ensure that all processes and procedures adhere to SOX 404 compliance for the global indirect tax function. Develop, implement, and monitor additional controls as necessary. Direct and oversee the preparation and analysis of monthly general ledger reconciliations for all transaction tax accounts and approve necessary journal entries. Implement tax technology and procedures to improve the efficiency of the department and global indirect taxes. Proactively identify opportunities to mitigate the Company’s tax liabilities and exposures. Network with other companies and organizations to facilitate issue resolution and best practices. Additional responsibilities and projects as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field. Advanced degree (MST, MBA) or equivalent experience. CPA and/or CMI preferred. 10+ years tax experience, preferably in the global transaction tax area. International tax experience required. Knowledge of Transaction Tax Technology solutions (e.g., Taxware, Vertex, etc.) desirable. Knowledge of Lawson (or similar) ERP system, esp. Accounts Payable & GL modules desirable. Strong research skills, preferably with RIA Checkpoint. Travel is required, including the potential for international travel. High degree of proficiency MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications. Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation & project management (from conception to completion) skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated collaborative skills and ability to work well within a team. Ability to work with and influence peers and senior management. We are seeking a Transaction Tax Manager– North America in our Duluth, Georgia Indirect Tax Department.
Responsibilities: Manage the tax technical aspects of the Canadian value added (GST/HST/QST) and provincial sales taxes (PST) including research, audits and planning, coordinating with the Indirect Tax Accounting Manager, and manage U.S. state and local sales and use taxes including compliance, tax audits and reverse audits, research and planning, and personnel. Requires strong manufacturing experience. Develop and maintain tax systems, audit trail, data reporting integrity, and automated data flow for transaction tax needs. Ensure the accuracy of use tax accruals and sales taxes billed. Drive process improvements including designing or streamlining compliance and accounting processes. Oversee business license reporting and the handling of customer and vendor exemption certificates. Manage audits and provide support and training for business operations in order to minimize tax exposure. Provide accurate and concise reporting to company management. Significant manufacturing experience is required for this position. Relocation is possible for the right match for this key position.
Experience Required: B.S. Degree in accounting required; CPA strongly preferred. Significant experience in manufacturing business required. 8+ Years multistate transaction tax experience. Minimum 3 years experience in Canadian transaction tax (GST/HST/QST/PST) compliance and audits required. Experience with large corporate financial systems such as JD Edwards, Oracle, SAP, Indus Passport. Experience with transaction tax software such as Vertex, Sabrix, CorpSales, Onesource Indirect Tax . Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required; database experience preferred. Solid experience in handling transaction tax audits effectively. Experienced in dealing with personnel at different levels of the organization, and internal and external auditors. Fluency in French a plus.
